What are the disadvantages of the PM WANI Scheme?

The PM WANI Scheme aims to cause a revolution in India. However, the overly excited masses aren’t objectively looking at this initiative. That’s why this article will act as an ultimate equalizer. It will tell you about the disadvantages of the PM WANI scheme.

It won’t be an understatement to say that India has a hunger for the internet. And it is a recent hunger that exists because of the telecom giants like Jio and Airtel. They hooked us on the drug of interconnectivity. And now, nothing is enough. The PM Wani Scheme is touted as a buffet of internet access that will sate all desired.

And hearing this news, we reacted like we always do – with wide arms and wider smiles.

Such overexcitement has blinded many among us to look at this scheme with objective eyes. There are major disadvantages to this scheme that no one is talking about.

But we do?

What are those disadvantages? Let’s talk about them.

The lack of robust cyber security architecture

Recent reports have revealed that India is ranked among the most cyber secure countries in the world. What these “reports” fail to take India’s population into account. But you and I, we both know the reality, don’t we?

We realize the flimsiness of India’s security structure. In fact, it is possible that both of us have been the victims of the crimes that happen within it. So, how can you say that it is secure to use the PM WANI WIFI portal?

It is an open internet hotspot. That makes it hard for us to believe that the government put any sort of robust facility behind it. Again, it is our subjective perspective. However, If history is any indication, we believe it is right for us to judge the scheme like this.

People’s data isn’t safe on their own private networks in India. So, how can we expect any sort of security of data on a public network?

This might seem harsh, but you know in your heart that this statement carries a tinge of truth. And without it, we might as well give up.

But security is not the only issue.

The PM WANI Wi-Fi might not have an optimal internet speed

We sincerely believe that if there is one thing stopping us from achieving our goals, it is the internet speed. On one hand, it is low, and on the other, it is inconsistent. And although the PM WANI scheme is promising a ubiquity of internet access, it is not going to sate the desires of those who seek a high internet speed.

And the reason for this lack of speed can be divided into two parts:

  1. 4G still hasn’t penetrated most parts of India
  2. 5G is still at the novice stages in the country,
  3. And, people haven’t been made aware of the true expanse of the internet.

Conclusion

Because of these aforementioned reasons, we can’t hope to see good internet access in India anytime. Granted, the government of India has done its part to make India more internet-friendly, but there is more to be done. And unless we deal with the cybersecurity issues and the speed problems, the PM WANI scheme will be in vain.
